Phagwara, July 15, 2026 — The Punjab Football Association has announced the commencement of the Punjab State Super Football League (PSL) and the Punjab Football League (PFL), marking the start of an exciting football season across the state.

Punjab State Super Football League (PSL)

The PSL will officially kick off on 10th August 2026. A preparatory meeting with participating clubs was convened at Hotel Anmol Palace, where officials finalized all technical aspects of the competition.

• The PSL will be played on a round-robin double-leg league format, ensuring each team faces its rivals both home and away.
• This format promises a competitive season, offering fans across Punjab a thrilling calendar of fixtures and a true test of consistency for all clubs.

Punjab Football League (PFL) Division-II & Division-III

The PFL will also commence its lower divisions later this month:

• Division-III begins on 20th August 2026
• Division-II begins on 25th August 2026

Each division will feature eight teams, competing on a single-leg league basis. Promotion and relegation will remain an integral part of the system, ensuring competitive balance across all tiers.

Promotion & Relegation System

• The top PSL team will be recommended for the Indian Football League (IFL) Division-III in the 2027–2028 season.
• The two lowest-ranked PSL teams will be relegated to PFL Division-II.
• The top two teams of PFL Division-II will be promoted to PSL for 2027–2028, while the bottom two will drop to PFL Division-III.
• The top two teams of PFL Division-III will move up to PFL Division-II for the 2026–2027 season.

Key Features

• The PSL has introduced a quota of nine locally groomed Punjabi players in the playing XI, with an allowance for two players born in other states.
• This initiative underscores the league’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent while maintaining competitive diversity.
• The official ball of the leagues has been declared as Spartan ‘Taj’, adding a distinctive identity to the competitions.
