Shampura, 10 August 2026: Kehar Sporting Club began their Punjab State Super Football League (PSL) campaign with a 1-0 victory over Sher-e-Punjab SC in the opening match of the 40th edition at Shampura, Ropar, on Monday.
After a goalless first half, Shivam Thakur broke the deadlock in the 51st minute with a well-taken goal to put Kehar Sporting ahead. Sher-e-Punjab pushed hard for an equaliser and created several opportunities, but the Kehar custodian made timely saves to keep his side in front. The visitors also threatened on the counter, while the Sher-e-Punjab goalkeeper produced important saves to prevent further goals as Kehar Sporting secured all three points.
In the other opening-day fixture at the Punjab FC Sports Complex, Mohali, defending champions Punjab FC defeated promoted GHG Khalsa College FC 1-0 to make a winning start to their title defence.
Punjab FC created a number of chances in the first half and were rewarded in the 39th minute when Ekmeet Singh found the back of the net to give the champions the lead. GHG Khalsa College FC responded strongly after the break, but the Punjab FC defence remained organised.
Both teams had opportunities in the second half, with the respective custodians making crucial saves to keep the scoreline unchanged. Punjab FC held on to their narrow advantage until the final whistle to collect three points, while GHG Khalsa College FC showed a spirited performance in their first PSL outing after promotion.
